Building a new home in Ecuador.

Building a new home in Ecuador

Building anything around here requires the home owner breathing on people’s neck.

At least, until one finds the Maestro who is really listening, paying attention and doing what one had ask and he said he had understood.

When traveling in Ecuador one will notice many different ways to do roofing. In Cuenca, for instance people uses Eternit (the sheets looking thing that are made from concrete) and then covered with roof tiles. It looks nice, makes Cuenca look homogeneous which is good.

In Puerto Lopez, in other hand one sees this metal roof everywhere. Some places uses natural material to cover the metal, which I think looks pretty.

I have not decided what to do with mine. Tile is not cheap and any natural material will be like a invitation for the bugs to breed over our heads. (at least this is what we were told, scorpions and other insects like to hide in that material)
So, I guess that we will just wait and see.

We took this pics on a development on Puerto Cayo, this place is a beach front place, and has direct access from the highway. Is near by The Cocos, close by the traffic circle that is just outside of Puerto Cayo.

We like the idea of building with this material, but find someone who is able to work with it and have the house done on time, seems like is another history.

It amazes me that the companies that manufacture those panels don’t respond emails, they pick up the phone sometimes, promise to send an email with all the information about it and the email never comes. We met an architect in Cuenca, he showed us his place (really nice) He promise to send us a quote and all what he knows about the panels, have been over a year and we had no got any email from him. We even called him several times, he kept promising to send the email and it never happened.

I heard that this development in Puerto Cayo is still under construction.
