Getting married in Ecuador!!!

Hello Guys!!
I have so much to tell you about our experience with visa, documentation to get the cédula, and docs that Registro Civil requires from foreign people when they want to marry an Ecuadorian Citizen.
My fiance and I have been gathering  many docs, finally last Friday (Jan 25, 2013) we went to Registro Civil in Guayaquil (The principal oficce is located on 9 de Octubre y Pedro Carbo)  to have an interview that they require.

I got the interview first, then my fiancé. They needed to be sure the marriage is not for “business”. A few years ago  people from other countries were trying to stay in Ecuador by getting marrying  Ecuadorians, so the Gov decided  to stop it by asking a lot of documents and other personal info from the new couples.

Please remember every Gov around the world can change law accord to their need. I will leave the Registro Civil link where you can read this information:

Some of that docs (depending of the law at and the visa that every person has) is:

Birth Certificate with the Hague Apostille. (You can get it in your Country)

Ecuadorian Cedula from both. (And from Foreign people who has a residence visa)

If you are tourist (T3 visa/90days) they will request you be in Ecuador minimun 75days before get married. -Update to Oct 12th 2016: They wont allow people on T3 (or Turist visa) visa marry in Ecuador.

Marital Status Certification from the Consulate or Embassy. The US consulate website for EC has a form that we downloaded, have it stamp by the US Notary at the Consulate.

Copy in color of every page where appears your Ecuadorian visas. If you have previous entrances.

In our case my fiance is divorced, He brought is Divorce Decree. Along to marital Status certification from USA Consulate.

They kept all our docs, so if you want, make copies for your records.

Is important every document has names spelling correctly, because if some doc has a misspelling they will refuse it. Sometimes they accept it. Seems like depends of the official who is at the office or if one has a contact there.

But, if there is a misspelling and you don’t fix it could cost you money and time.

Also, every document needs to be translated, the translation needs to be notarize and has to be attach with the copy of cedula of the translator. This is important.  In our case the lawyer in Civil Registration was trying to refused the translation of the Divorce Decree because the translator was a American Lady holding a T3 visa (Not able to work accord to Ecuadorian law)

Finally she accept it. I said: Well the translator lady is not my friend, she works at an Attorney Office and she made the translation and I paid for it, also has a notarization.

But, try to get a translation from a Ecuadorian and you be sure you will not waste money.

My fiance brought translations from America and they did not accept it. They said because has to be notarize from a Ecuadorian Notary. So, we wasted money.

I have so much to tell you! I will try explain to you how get your cedula, which docs they request and also about translations.
